Arrived in Kyiv!

Kyiv, Ukraine Airport
We arrived in Kyiv at 1:30 pm Ukrainian time, which is 7:30 am in Martinsburg.  The flights were fine.  We were well fed and taken care of by the airline.  When we arrived at the airport in Frankfort, Germany and Kyiv, we had to get off of the plane by walking down a set of stairs that is pulled up to the plane.  Then we boarded a bus that drove us to the airport terminal.  The planes don't pull right up to the gates here like they do in most other places!!  We had to clear customs and were then greeted by someone from the program.  She showed us where we could exchange some U.S. money for Ukrainian money (I will bring some to school!) and then took us to a waiting bus to go to our hotel.  The hotel is very nice.  It is called Hotel Rus and is located right in downtown Kyiv, beside the soccer stadium.  I can see it out my window!  These will be special rooms in June for Euro12!!  We will be going for dinner shortly, and then it will be time to sleep.  I have been on the road for about 24 hours now and am feeling a little tired!  Tomorrow we have meetings in the morning and then we go on a tour of Kyiv.  I will take lots of pictures and videos and will post again tomorrow!

Only got to read your blog to 7th and 8th period classes today, but will do better tomorrow. Hope you are getting some rest.

A couple of questions from 7th period.
What do the people of Kyiv wear?
What is the temperature/weather like there?

A couple of questions from 8th period.
What kinds of food are available and have you eaten? (Do they have pizza?)
What kinds of transportation is available?

    1. Hello everyone! Sorry that it took me so long to reply! They have been keeping us very busy! Also, I replied to the email that blogspot sent, then realized that it was non-reply. Sorry!! As for your questions:
The people wear different clothing depending on the generation. the older eople wear more conservative clothes, but the younger people are very fashionable! The teenager in the next post was roller blading down the main street and was so excited to have his picture taken. He was wearing very modern clothes, had an iPod and spoke English!
The weather is rainy but in the 50's so it has been fine to walk. We have walked what seems to be miles!!
The food is different but good. One odd thing is that the beef tastes very different and everything seems to be pickled! I have found plenty to eat...and I even like the borsch soup made of beets!!
The people in the city ride public transportation. They have these little yellow buses that the drivers zip around in! You have to be very careful not the get run over! They also have this underground mall that you can walk through to get from one place to another.
